Jianan Liu is a visual artist and designer based in San Francisco. Her work has appeared with NPR, Malala Fund, Target, and HuffPost, where her campaigns racked up millions of views.


MFA in Illustration, MICA. Spends her time turning complicated ideas into images people actually stop scrolling for.


Lives in SF with her husband, a cat who's declared war on gravity (RIP everything on the counter), and a dog who treats furniture as a personal challenge. 
Always makes time for a sketchbook and the occasional passion project.

	Visual Package 
The persuaders - HuffPostThis was a fun project where we collaborated with our Opinion Editor to create something truly unique. It became a comprehensive visual package that allowed me to explore and navigate through multiple creative concepts. Ultimately, I landed on the concept of a detective clue board, which became our central design theme. The project was particularly exciting as we brought together five talented artists to develop the illustrations, each contributing their unique creative perspective.

Recognizing the complexity and importance of these potential rulings, I conceptualized a design that could effectively communicate the nuanced legal landscape. 	Mgazine Covers/Motion&#38;nbsp;Poetry Magaizne&#38;nbsp;
 

	I collaborated with Fred Sasaki and Su Cho (guest editors) to create a series of covers for three issues. Our goal was to ensure visual and editorial synchronicity through carefully designed cover art. Beyond developing the static versions, I focused on enhancing audience engagement by creating corresponding motion graphics for each cover. This approach allowed us to bring a dynamic dimension to the publication's visual storytelling, bridging print and digital design experiences.

 The Christian Century


	I had the pleasure of collaborating with Art Director Dan Richardson from The Christian Century to create a stunning cover for their Spring Book issue. My design approach centered on the essence of spring, using this theme as a creative springboard. I crafted a beautiful spring scene that cleverly used the book as a frame, capturing and collecting the vibrant sparkles of the season. I'm proud to share that this piece was selected for the AI-PI 41 winner list, recognizing its innovative design and artistic merit.
